First, get in touch and have a chat, tell us what you need, and we will provide the best options to choose from.
Next, send us your wheel.
If you have the new hub, send that as well.
If you need a new hub, we can provide that or you can order it to arrive at our workshop.

Once all parts arrive, we will normally have your wheel back to you in 1 week.

Hub Replacement: Saving Your Existing Wheel

Whether your old hub has a cracked shell, worn-out pawls, or is no longer compatible with your bike, replacing the hub is a great way to salvage the rest of your wheel. We can custom-lace a brand-new hub into your wheel, saving your preferred rim and spokes. It's a cost-effective way to get your wheel back to perfect working order without buying an entirely new wheelset.

Why Upgrade or Replace Your Hub?

Replacing a hub isn't always about fixing damage; it's often about unlocking better performance, future-proofing your wheel, or ensuring compatibility with a new frame. Here are the most common reasons cyclists choose a replacement:

  • Upgrading to a hub with better bearings (ceramic, high-grade steel) for reduced friction and improved longevity.
  • Switching to a lighter-weight hub for a competitive edge.
  • Changing the hub color or style to match a new frame.
  • The old hub is cracked, damaged, or seized beyond saving.
  • You need a different axle spacing (e.g., switching to Boost or Super Boost) to fit a new frame.
  • The bearing seats have worn down the inside of your hub shell, making it impossible to hold new bearings tightly.

Freehub Body Upgrades and Swaps

The freehub body is the crucial component that allows your cassette to engage with your wheel. With the many different groupset standards today, you may need to swap your freehub to accommodate a new gear set.

For example, if you're upgrading from an older Shimano system to SRAM's wider-range XD or XDR cassettes, we can replace your freehub to ensure it's compatible with your existing wheel. We also work with other popular standards like Shimano Micro Spline and Shimano HG (Hyperglide), ensuring you can use the latest components without having to buy a whole new wheel.

Hub Size and Standard Conversions

Hub sizes and standards are always evolving in the cycling industry, and it's common to find your old wheel won't fit your new frame or fork. We can help you convert your wheel by installing a new hub that accommodates the latest standards.

If your new mountain bike uses the wider Boost standard (148mm rear / 110mm front), we can install a new Boost hub onto your existing wheel, ensuring a perfect fit and a stronger wheel. We can also help with other sizes, including Quick Release (QR), Super Boost (157mm rear), 142mm, 150mm, and 20mm thru-axle conversions.
